Siamese Cats - History
Siamese cats have a rich and very interesting history. They have existed for many centuries. There are many legends and stories about the development of the Siamese breed. The true origins of the Siamese breed are rather vague.
It is considered to be a "natural" breed, which means that the Siamese cat was developed without the intervention of man. According to some of the popular legends, Siamese cats guarded Buddhist temples. They were considered sacred, and were generally kept only by priests and royalty.
The native land of Siamese cats is Siam (now Thailand). This breed was unknown in the West until the 19th century. The characteristic traits of this cat breed have also been subjects to many beautiful legends. One of them is connected with a tiny kink at the end of the cat's tail.
As the legend goes, once, a Siamese Princess bathed in a stream. She was afraid of loosing her rings, and was looking around for somewhere convenient to place her jewelry. Her favorite cat then crooked its tail for her benefit. Ever since, all Siamese cats have been born with a tiny kink at the end of their tails, as if to hold the Princess' rings.
